Urban Forestry encompasses a diverse array of trees in urban environments, providing crucial ecosystem services like pollution reduction, stormwater management, carbon sequestration, and lower surface temperatures. At One Tree Planted, we prioritize maintaining, protecting, and planting urban forests to enhance community health and resilience in our rapidly urbanizing world.
Empowering and Uplifting Women in Reforestation
The Women's Empowerment Fund for Reforestation was established to address two critical objectives: promoting environmental sustainability through reforestation, and advancing gender equity by empowering women in leadership roles within the environmental sector. The fund emphasizes supporting reforestation projects that have the highest need of funding and actively involve women at all levels of decision-making and implementation.
The fund's focus on women's empowerment aligns with the principles of gender equality and social justice. Research shows that women's involvement in forestry and conservation can lead to more sustainable outcomes and greater community engagement. By supporting women-led reforestation initiatives, we strive to address systemic barriers and promote inclusivity within the environmental movement.

Trees — and the benefits they provide — are more important than ever as populations around the world continue to grow. They provide essential green infrastructure, fostering healthy communities for people to live, work, and play. These benefits, however, are not equitably accessible, and historic environmental and social injustices have placed some urban communities at a disadvantage. More must be done to help all communities gain access to thriving urban tree resources, and One Tree Planted’s Urban Forestry Action Fund works towards just that. The goal of the Action Fund is to plant trees where they are needed most for the benefit of all people.
The Urban Forestry Action Fund supports a portfolio of projects in cities around the world, strategically selected by our team in an effort to address inequities in tree canopy and make lasting change in 8 key Impact Areas.

Microsoft
Donations from Microsoft have supported the installation of over 108,000 trees near their data centers in countries around the globe, including Mexico, Indonesia, Ireland, and India. Microsoft’s generosity has supported our local partners in tree planting and community development as part of their commitment to facilitating Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and building a more sustainable future for our planet.
FedEx
Since 2022, One Tree Planted has partnered with FedEx to plant trees in urban communities where they are needed most. FedEx has affirmed their ongoing commitment to urban forestry through hands-on support during volunteer days — when their team assists local planting partners’ restoration projects.
Origins
From street trees to orchard plantings, Origins has supported the planting of thousands of trees through the development of 19 sole sourced projects — and supporting 3 Urban Forestry Action Fund projects. Origins’ dedication to urban forestry efforts have fostered lasting change, including enhancing food security, community development, youth empowerment, and more!
